The Koa'ki Meiru archetype is a high-risk, high-reward strategy built around powerful monsters with a significant drawback: a mandatory "maintenance cost" that must be paid during each End Phase. This mechanic, centered around the Iron Core of Koa'ki Meiru, defines the archetype's core paradox: its greatest strength is also its most profound weakness. The history of Koa'ki Meiru in competitive play is a story of players finding clever ways to circumvent this fatal flaw, either by focusing on the self-sufficient Rock-Type monsters or by integrating its unstable, powerful monsters as specialized tools in more consistent engines.
Nearly every Koa'ki Meiru monster will be destroyed during the End Phase unless you reveal a monster of a specific Type or send an Iron Core of Koa'ki Meiru to the Graveyard. This constant resource drain makes pure builds inherently fragile.
Successful strategies have historically ignored the Iron Core system. Early "Rock Stun" variants focused on the Rock-type Koa'ki Meiru monsters, while modern applications use them as disposable, single-turn tools within stronger archetypes like Adamancipator.

Activate Diamond Core of Koa'ki Meiru to search for Koa'ki Meiru Urnight (assuming you already have Iron Core).
Normal Summon Urnight. Activate its effect by revealing Iron Core to Special Summon another attacker like Bergzak from the deck.
Banish Diamond Core from the GY for destruction protection. Then, banish Iron Core to Special Summon Koa'ki Meiru Maximus, destroy a card, and attack for game.
