A Deep Dive into the Mermail Engine
The Atlantean archetype, historically inseparable from the Mermail engine, is a high-velocity combo strategy focused on resource generation and controlled discard loops. The deck's primary goal is to rapidly fill the Graveyard to summon Moulinglacia the Elemental Lord, stripping the opponent?s hand before establishing a powerful control board. Its mechanics are deeply tied to the lore of a powerful undersea army, leveraging strict card text rulings and chain link theory to guarantee effects and overwhelm opponents.
The primary combo starter. Sends an Atlantean from Deck to GY as cost to search another, generating multiple resources at once.
The main searcher. When sent to the GY as cost for a WATER monster's effect, it adds any Sea Serpent from Deck to hand.
Provides spot removal, destroying a face-up card when sent to the GY as cost. Also grants an extra Normal Summon.
Mermail monsters like Abyssteus and Abyssmegalo provide the necessary discard outlets to trigger your Atlantean effects.
Deep Sea Diva is a one-card starter, while Deep Sea Minstrel enables hand-ripping combos.
A powerful boss monster that discards two cards from the opponent's hand upon being summoned.
This walkthrough demonstrates the primary one-card combo that establishes the deck's hand-ripping strategy and endboard.
Normal Summon Deep Sea Diva. Use her effect to Special Summon Neptabyss, the Atlantean Prince from your Deck.
Activate Neptabyss, sending Atlantean Dragoons from Deck to GY as cost. This triggers both effects, allowing you to search for two different cards.
Continue the combo to summon Deep Sea Minstrel to banish a card from the opponent's hand, then summon Moulinglacia to discard two more before building your final board.
Abyss Dweller is currently banned. Use Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir or Tornado Dragon as alternatives.
The endboard focuses on crippling the opponent's resources before they can play.
The board is protected by multiple layers of negation and removal.
