Atlantis, City of the Sea Dragon

The Field Spell Behind the Daedalus Deck

Lore Archive

"Plato wrote that Atlantis sank beneath the sea in a single day and night. Under the waves it became something else: the capital of the sea dragons, where the ocean itself answers to Daedalus."

The dragon is older than the city. Levia-Dragon - Daedalus reached the TCG in 2004, and Structure Deck: Fury from the Deep paired it with A Legendary Ocean and introduced its evolved form, Ocean Dragon Lord - Neo-Daedalus. Both cleared the field by sending "Umi" to the GY, and for more than twenty years that pair was all Daedalus had. Beyond the Brave finally builds it a home: Atlantis, recast as a dragon's capital. Azure Ocean Dragon Lord - Neo-Daedalus Rage keeps the old trick of spending "Umi" to sweep the field, but now every card named "Umi" rides out the flood.

The Field Spell that turns Daedalus into an archetype. It lowers every Level, makes the Daedalus Link Monsters cheaper, and comes back from the GY. Unlike every older Umi Field Spell, it is not named "Umi".

Card text

  1. LevelsWhile a monster that mentions "Atlantis, City of the Sea Dragon" is on the field, the Levels of all monsters in both players' hands and on the field are reduced by 1.
  2. LinksWhen you Link Summon a "Daedalus" Link Monster, you can reduce the total number of materials by 1 (from Link Rating and from mentioned materials).
  3. GYIf this card is in your GY and you control "Umi": You can place this card face-up on your field.

You can only use this effect of "Atlantis, City of the Sea Dragon" once per turn. (Effect 3.)

What it's for: effect 2 is the reason to play it. With Atlantis in your Field Zone, two WATER monsters become Levia-Dragoon - Daedalus and three monsters become Azure Ocean Dragon Lord - Neo-Daedalus Rage. Effect 3 makes it hard to get rid of: the new monsters, Advent of Atlantis and both Links are named "Umi" on the field, so Atlantis can almost always come back. Effect 1 is a bonus that hits both players, so it can work for you or against you.

The name: its Japanese name, 竜都アトランティス, means "Dragon Capital Atlantis", and early fan translations called it Atlantis, the Dragon Capital. The official English name is Atlantis, City of the Sea Dragon. It is a different card from the Atlantean archetype's Atlantis cards, and from Warrior of Atlantis.

Effect by Effect

Konami's database notes that effects 1 and 2 apply from the Field Zone without starting a chain, while effect 3 is activated in the GY and does start one.

Every Level Drops by 1

It only works while a monster that mentions Atlantis is on the field, on either side. Konami defines that as a monster whose text names "Atlantis, City of the Sea Dragon" as a card. That's all six Atlantis and Daedalus monsters:

  • Warchief, Monster Arms, Siren Vortex, Levia-Dragon of Atlantis
  • Levia-Dragoon - Daedalus, Neo-Daedalus Rage
  • Not Fisherman of Legend, Kairyu-Shin, Electric Jellyfish or Coralianectes: they mention "Umi", not Atlantis

It lowers your opponent's Levels too, whatever their Attribute. Two of their Level 4s make a Rank 3, not a Rank 4, and every Synchro total drops by 1 for each monster used. Ranks and Link Ratings don't change.

Back From the GY

If Atlantis is in your GY and you control "Umi", it places itself face-up in your Field Zone, once per turn. It isn't a Quick Effect, so you use it in your Main Phase.

  • "Umi" you control: any Atlantis monster, Advent of Atlantis, a Daedalus Link, Umi, A Legendary Ocean or Sea Stealth II
  • If Umi or A Legendary Ocean is in your Field Zone, placing Atlantis sends it to the GY
  • Macro Cosmos and other banish effects stop it for good

That's what makes Neo-Daedalus Rage's sweep cheap for you: Atlantis goes to the GY with everything else that isn't "Umi", and comes back in your Main Phase.

1 WATER Link-3 No No
2 WATER Normal Monsters Yes No
3 WATER Normal Monsters Yes Yes

Source: Konami's official card database FAQ, published 17 Jul 2026. With the discount, Levia-Dragoon's requirement is treated as "2 WATER monsters" and Neo-Daedalus Rage's as "3 monsters". So in practice, count monsters, not Link Ratings: Levia-Dragoon plus 2 more monsters is 3, enough for Rage.

Atlantis, Umi and A Legendary Ocean

All three want your one Field Zone. Umi and A Legendary Ocean are "Umi" and switch the classic cards on by themselves. Atlantis isn't, so the classic cards run off the new monsters and Advent instead, and in exchange you get the Link discount and a Field Spell that comes back.

Play Atlantis when…

  • You're making Levia-Dragoon or Neo-Daedalus Rage this turn.
  • You have Daedalus Maelstrom Set: its summon negate needs Atlantis on your field.
  • Your opponent relies on Level 4s for Rank 4s, or on exact Synchro totals.
  • You want Call of Atlantis to negate a monster, which only works with Atlantis on your field.

Play A Legendary Ocean when…

  • Kairyu-Shin or Warchief needs a Normal Summon without a Tribute, and no Atlantis monster is on the field yet.
  • Kairyu-Shin is your only other "Umi" source. A Legendary Ocean turns its lock on by itself.
  • You're sweeping with Neo-Daedalus Rage on your opponent's turn and want your Field Spell to stay on the field.
  • You want +200 ATK/DEF on every WATER monster.

Swapping between them

  1. Advent of Atlantis places either one. A Legendary Ocean is always treated as "Umi", even in the Deck, so it counts as the "Umi" option. That's why the Kairyu-Shin line on the Umi page runs Advent.
  2. A new Field Spell replaces the old one. Activating Atlantis from your hand, or placing it with a second Advent, sends A Legendary Ocean to the GY. Normal Summon Kairyu-Shin first, while A Legendary Ocean is still making it Level 4.
  3. Atlantis can take the zone back from the GY. With A Legendary Ocean in your Field Zone, you control "Umi", so Atlantis's GY effect can place it and send A Legendary Ocean to the GY.
  4. Sea Stealth Attack brings A Legendary Ocean back. When it's activated, it can activate Umi or A Legendary Ocean from your hand or GY. It can't fetch Atlantis, which isn't "Umi".

Atlantis in the Combo Lines

The three lines from the Umi guide, each with Atlantis's part in it. They play step by step in the combo simulator below. The Umi page has the full write-ups.

Line 1 · Going first

Warchief + Siren Vortex into Neo-Daedalus Rage

Atlantis's part: Advent places it before any monster is out. It turns 2 monsters into Levia-Dragoon and 3 into Rage, and Rage brings Levia-Dragoon back from the GY.

Line 2 · Classic + new

Advent + Kairyu-Shin: the Lock With a Spare "Umi"

Atlantis's part: it isn't in this one. Advent places A Legendary Ocean instead, so Kairyu-Shin is Level 4 in hand. Your next Advent can swap to Atlantis.

Line 3 · Going second

Call + Siren Vortex: Rage Sweep for 8500

Atlantis's part: it makes Rage a 3-material Link. Rage's sweep sends it to the GY along with your opponent's field, and it places itself back before you attack.

Rulings and Common Questions

Is Atlantis, City of the Sea Dragon "Umi"?
No. Kairyu-Shin can't add it, Sea Stealth Attack can't activate it, Electric Jellyfish can't send it, and Neo-Daedalus Rage's sweep sends it to the GY. Everything that needs "Umi" on the field has to get it from another card.
Does the Level cut need my own Atlantis monster?
Any monster that mentions Atlantis works, on either field. With none on the field, nothing changes, even while Atlantis is face-up.
Can Levia-Dragoon and one more monster make Neo-Daedalus Rage?
No. With the discount, Rage needs 3 monsters and a Link Monster counts as 1. Levia-Dragoon plus 2 more monsters works.Konami's official database FAQ, 17 Jul 2026.
Does the discount work for other WATER Links, such as Marincess Coral Anemone?
No. It only covers "Daedalus" Link Monsters: Levia-Dragoon - Daedalus and Azure Ocean Dragon Lord - Neo-Daedalus Rage.
When can I use the GY effect?
It starts a chain but isn't a Quick Effect, so you use it in your Main Phase, once per turn, while you control "Umi". After a Rage sweep on your opponent's turn, Atlantis waits in the GY until your Main Phase, and Daedalus Maelstrom's summon negate is off until then.
Is placing it with Advent of Atlantis the same as activating it?
No. Advent's effect is what gets activated and can be responded to. The Field Spell is placed, not activated, so cards that negate a Spell Card's activation get no chance at Atlantis itself.
Can Warchief of Atlantis add Atlantis itself?
Some previews say it can. Konami hasn't published a ruling on whether Atlantis counts as a card that mentions itself, so none of our lines rely on it. Advent of Atlantis is the reliable way to put it on the field.
