Maximum Overdrive: A Technical Analysis
The F.A. (Formula Athlete) archetype is a Synchro-based WIND Machine strategy defined by its unique Level manipulation mechanic. Core gameplay revolves around activating "F.A." Spells and Traps to increase the Levels of its monsters, which in turn boosts their ATK and unlocks powerful control-oriented effects at Level 7 or higher. The deck's primary goal is to establish a lock using monsters like F.A. Hang On Mach, while its secondary win condition is a swift OTK fueled by rapidly scaling ATK values. The entire strategy is a constant state of flux, where every action involves shifting gears to build an overwhelmingly powerful board.
The F.A. strategy is built on a synergistic loop between its monsters gaining Levels and its Field Spells providing the necessary boosts and resources.
The heart and soul of the deck. This Level 1 Tuner searches for any "F.A." Field Spell on summon, kickstarting the entire engine and enabling Synchro plays.
The premier control monster. At Level 7+, it banishes any card sent to the opponent's GY, creating a powerful one-sided floodgate.
A specialized disruption tool. At Level 7+, it prevents the opponent from activating effects by discarding or sending cards from their hand to the GY.
An inherent Main Deck boss monster that provides spot removal by destroying a card on the field. It can also destroy your own Field Spells to trigger their search effects.
The most important Field Spell. It provides a +2 Level boost during the Main and Battle Phases and protects all F.A. monsters from being targeted by opponent's card effects.
A versatile Quick-Play Spell. Its Graveyard effect allows you to destroy a card you control (like a Field Spell) to Special Summon an F.A. monster from your deck, fueling your combos.
Converts excess Levels into card draw. Its Graveyard effect provides crucial recursion by Special Summoning an F.A. monster from your GY.

Normal Summon F.A. Auto Navigator. Activate its effect to search your deck for F.A. City Grand Prix.
Activate City Grand Prix. Normal Summon F.A. Hang On Mach. City Grand Prix boosts its Level from 4 to 6.
Use Auto Navigator's GY effect targeting Hang On Mach to summon itself as a Level 2 Tuner. Synchro Summon using the Level 4 Hang On Mach and Level 2 Navigator into the Level 6 F.A. Dawn Dragster. With an extender, you can bring back Hang On Mach to complete the board.
As of the current TCG format, the F.A. archetype is entirely unrestricted, allowing it to operate at full capacity.
