A Strategic Deep Dive into High-Speed Xyz Combos
"The Goblins are cunning tricksters of the underworld—from the Upstart who grants LP for card advantage to the Attack Force that charges in reckless waves. These green-skinned schemers profit from every transaction, proving that in the economy of war, the shrewdest dealer always wins."
There are Goblins all over the game's artwork: greedy, unlucky, or on the wrong end of a trap. Here are the recurring ones, and what card trivia says links them. Follow a marked name to walk the trail.
The Goblin of Greed, with Jar of Greed and Pot of Greed, appears in more than twenty artworks, from Bubble Crash to Good Goblin Housekeeping.
The Goblin of Greed picks a vault lock with a question mark from a Mokey Mokey to steal a Pot of Greed, following the events of Dark Factory of Mass Production: part of a story told across a dozen cards. The picture on the wall is Graceful Charity.
The Goblin of Greed makes off with the cart of Supply and a Jar of Greed.
The Goblin of Greed, and an ironic role reversal of Second Coin Toss, where a human drops coins for the goblin to pick up.
Goblin of Greed with Avatar of The Pot, Pot of Generosity, Sinister Serpent and a Pot of Greed missing a piece, presumably the Shard of Greed.
The Attack Force turns up in almost thirty artworks, usually as the butt of the joke, a nod to its 0 DEF after attacking. In Prepare to Strike Back and Assault on GHQ, Goblin Headquarters, they fight Marauding Captain.
The goblin in front copies Marauding Captain: the same pose, a cloak made from his tunic, knee and elbow pads, and a kanabō with a sword hilt.
In the ZEXAL anime and manga, four copies of Goblindbergh appear when its effect activates, matching its Level 4.
Two Goblindberghs carry a container with Gogogo Golem inside, as in ZEXAL, where Goblindbergh's effect brings a monster in on a container.
Most likely Coach Goblin, since a boxer's coach is also his "second", with Giant Orc. He, Coach Goblin and D.D. Trainer seem to be one monster: in D.D. Crazy Beast, he is pulled into the Different Dimension.
He devotes himself to perfect calligraphy of the word "False", the word on the scroll of Fake Trap. In Master Guide 6, a somewhat unlucky goblin boy draws a "False" fortune in Onikuji, and in Kingyo Sukui the Calligrapher watches him with pity.
Gabonga leads the Goblin Bikers, who keep trying to rob Diabellstar the Black Witch in the Sinful Spoils story: he appears in Goblin Biker Grand Entrance, Goblin Biker Grand Pileup, Goblin Bikers Gone Wild and more.
The Goblin Biker archetype is a high-synergy, combo-intensive Xyz strategy centered around Level 3 monsters. Its gameplay revolves around a unique and parasitic mechanic: detaching Xyz Materials from any monster on the field to fuel its own effects. This creates a dynamic where the archetype not only builds its own board but actively dismantles the resources of opposing Xyz-based strategies. The entire game plan is about turning an opponent's resources into fuel for your own high-speed ride to victory.
Nearly every combo funnels through Big Gabonga. It's the central processing unit: its summon searches Dugg Charger, which then summons itself by detaching from Gabonga, and Dugg then searches Grand Entrance. This core loop turns two Level 3 monsters into a formidable board and a powerful extender in hand.
For Goblin Bikers, the Graveyard is a second hand. Key extenders like Clatter Sploder, Boom Mach, and Mean Merciless can all revive themselves during either player's turn by detaching a material. This ensures a potent grind game and allows for surprise disruptions and follow-up plays.
Using the Speedroid engine (Terrortop & Taketomborg) provides two Level 3 monsters without using your Normal Summon. This makes your main combo more resilient to interruption, as you still have a Normal Summon in reserve to play through hand traps.
Integrating the Fiendsmith engine elevates the deck's power ceiling to a top-tier level. While requiring more deck space, it ends on boards with multiple powerful negations from monsters like Fiendsmith's Desirae, resulting in 6+ interruptions.
Each member of the gang serves a distinct function in the overall machine. Understanding their roles is paramount to piloting the deck effectively, as one wrong move can cause the whole engine to stall.
The primary starter. Summons itself by detaching a material from anywhere, then searches for a "Goblin Biker" Spell/Trap to kickstart the combo.
A key recursion tool. Revives another Goblin on summon, and can revive itself from the Graveyard as a Quick Effect on the opponent's turn.
The Rank 3 boss and central hub. Searches a Goblin on summon and attaches opponent's monsters as material whenever a material is detached.
The deck's premier searcher and extender. Adds any "Goblin" monster, then lets you Special Summon it by detaching a material.
A Continuous Spell that grants an extra Normal Summon for a Goblin, crucial for playing through disruption.
A Trap that allows for an Xyz Summon on the opponent's turn, enabling surprise disruptions like destroying a key Spell or Trap.
This walkthrough demonstrates the deck's power, turning a single Tour Guide From the Underworld into a board of multiple interruptions.
Normal Summon Tour Guide. Use her effect to Special Summon Goblin Biker Mean Merciless from the deck, setting up the Graveyard.
Overlay Tour Guide and Mean Merciless to Xyz Summon Goblin Biker Big Gabonga. Its effect triggers, searching Goblin Biker Dugg Charger and starting the main engine.
From this point, the combo summons more Level 3 monsters, using them to climb through the Ghostrick and Armored Xyz packages to build the final board.
As of the current TCG format, the Goblin archetype is entirely unrestricted, allowing it to operate at full capacity.
