The "Junk" archetype, synonymous with Yusei Fudo from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's, functions as the critical ignition system for the broader "Synchron" strategy. It is a combo-intensive, "glass cannon" deck that dedicates its entire turn-one strategy to a long and intricate sequence of summons. The singular goal is to construct an oppressive endboard of multiple powerful Synchro monsters to negate the opponent's actions and secure victory. The strategy's consistency, power, and vulnerability can be traced back to a single, pivotal card: Junk Speeder.
The Junk-Synchron deck is a complex machine. Each card serves a specific function, either starting the combo, extending it, or providing the consistency needed to execute the strategy reliably. Understanding these roles is fundamental to piloting the deck. Need to find the right parts? Check out this collection of assorted Junk cards to get started.
The premier Normal Summon. Revives a Level 2 or lower monster from the GY, setting up the first Synchro Summon.
The most vital consistency tool. Discard itself and a Tuner to search any "Synchron" monster, and revives a Tuner when used as Synchro material.
Summons itself from hand when a monster is revived from the GY. Generates two "Doppel Tokens" when used as Synchro Material.
A "free" Special Summon from the hand by paying 700 LP, but locks you into Synchro Monsters from the Extra Deck.
All starters and extenders serve one ultimate purpose: to summon Junk Speeder. This Level 5 Synchro Monster is the lynchpin of the entire strategy, the single card that enables the deck's explosive, board-building turns by summoning multiple "Synchron" Tuners directly from the deck.
Start with Junk Converter + any Tuner. Discard both to search Junk Synchron.
Normal Summon Junk Synchron to revive Junk Converter from the Graveyard.
Synchro Summon Junk Speeder using both monsters. Its effect summons a swarm of Tuners from the deck, beginning the "Synchro Climb."
The culmination of the combo is a field of powerful Synchro monsters designed to prevent the opponent from playing. This endboard typically features multiple forms of negation and disruption.
The ultimate boss monster. Banishes itself to provide an omni-negate for summons, attacks, or card effects.
Specializes in monster negation, shutting down key opponent effects and gaining ATK in the process.
The new support package represents a fundamental inflection point. The deck is no longer a linear "glass cannon" funneled into Junk Speeder. The new cards bifurcate the strategy into two distinct vectors:
The New Premier Starter. On summon, searches Junk Synchron or a Spell/Trap that mentions Junk Warrior. Its flexibility enables new "1.5 card combos" that don't even need Junk Speeder.
The Ultimate Combo Assembler. Adds Junk Synchron + another monster, then discards (which is a benefit for setup). Its GY effect is the real prize, providing a direct recovery from a negated Junk Speeder.
The Resilience Package. Can be used as material from hand and banishes from GY for destruction protection. Crucially: As it is both a "Scrap" and a "Synchron" monster, it can be Special Summoned by Junk Speeder, making it a viable Level 1 target alongside Jet Synchron.
The Combo Bridge. Provides negation protection, but only for "Junk Warrior" monsters and "Warrior" Synchros (this does not include Junk Speeder). It's the key piece for "No Speeder" combo lines.
This card is the centerpiece of the new, battle-focused OTK strategy, supported by extenders like Anchorbolt Hedgehog and Crossroad Sonic Chick.
Its effect revives multiple small monsters but then imposes a "Fatal Lock": you can only Special Summon one more time this turn. This lock makes it fundamentally incompatible with the "Junk Speeder" Synchro-Climb combo. It is not an extender; it is a boss monster for an entirely separate (and optional) win condition.
This line uses Synchro Fellowship for setup. If the opponent negates Junk Speeder, you activate Fellowship's GY effect to gain an additional Normal Summon, allowing you to continue your turn and still build a respectable board.
This new 1.5-card combo (e.g., Fullspeed Warrior + discard) completely bypasses the Junk Speeder choke point. It uses Scrap Warrior and Fellowship's GY effect to climb into Accel Synchron and end on Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon, all while having protection from Scrap Synchron.
The archetype has successfully evolved from a linear "glass cannon" into a complex, high-ceiling "toolbox". The "Junk Speeder" choke point is no longer a turn-ending catastrophe.
Success now demands pivoting between the "Junk Speeder" fortress, the resilient "No Speeder" line, and the "going-second" OTK. The deck's resilience and consistency are massively buffed, but so is its operational complexity.
While the Junk core remains untouched, the archetype's Heavy reliance on generic Synchro monsters and Tuner support means restrictions on generic support cards do have an impact.
Meta Implications: Despite restrictions on support cards, Junk's Flexible engine that works with various Synchron strategies allows the deck to remain viable with alternative tech choices.
