Lore Archive: The Covenant of the Four Sages

"Long ago, before the grand magical guilds of the world were founded, four extraordinary young mages forged the Magistus Covenant. By harnessing the essence of Extra Deck entities as magical armaments, they sought the true essence of magic and a world without conflict—unaware that their union would eventually collapse into tragic divergence."

  1. Shunned for their magic, two orphans, Zoroa and Spenta, founded Graybeard: a haven where spellcasters could study magic safe from people's fear.
  2. Among them lived Crowley, an orphan who studied invocation; Rilliona, who drew magic out of stones; and Endymion, a royal heir who had given the throne to his younger brother to help people through magic.
  3. Crowley, Endymion, Rilliona and Zoroa all became Magistus. But Zoroa, hearing the voice of the dragon Vahram, betrayed his friends and manipulated them into opening Theurgy, the gate to other worlds.
  4. As magic flooded the world, Zoroa fought Vahram and absorbed him, and the dragon's power consumed him.
  5. A projection of Artemis, a goddess from another world, warned Crowley, Endymion and Rilliona that Vahram destroys worlds by draining their magic. She led them to the guardian gods, who lent them their power.
  6. Fighting Zoroa between worlds, they found Spenta's body sealed in a giant jewel: Zoroa meant to remake the world to bring his friend back. Endymion and Rilliona gave Crowley all their mana, and he became Invoked Magistus Omega.
  7. With Zoroa beaten, Crowley, Endymion and Rilliona sealed Theurgy again, and Zoroa and Vahram away together, but the world was already full of magic. The friends went their separate ways.
  8. Years later, Aleister merged with a spirit he had invoked and lost control of himself, and Endymion had to seal him away in the Grand Spellbook Tower.
  9. Long afterwards, Aleister broke out of his stasis tube in an illusory body. In a village ruled by an impostor using his name, he invoked Cocytus to destroy the impostor's beast, then set out to repay his debt to Endymion.
  10. Endymion now ruled the Magical Citadel, one of the few havens from the monsters, where people used magic through the spell stones he invented. Haunted by dreams of Zoroa stirring, he decided to face his old friend alone.
  11. Endymion's wife Artemis gave him her blessing: the gate they had opened brought chaos, but it had also let her meet him. The self-styled foolish king asked his people to let him go, and set out.
  12. Rilliona, now a child-like guild master called Verre, led the Witchcrafters she had founded in a port town. After the festival's fireworks contest, she left Haine in charge and set out to rejoin her old friends.
  13. At Zoroa's crystal prison, Vahram, still wearing Zoroa's body, broke free in a new form and overwhelmed Endymion and Verre.
  14. Aleister arrived just in time. While Endymion and Verre bought him time, he finished a new invocation, and a black dragon, Invoked De Anima, brought Vahram down.
  15. For a moment Zoroa regained control and asked his friends to seal him deep beneath the earth: he and Vahram could no longer be separated, so he would take the deity with him. Aleister, Endymion and Verre sealed them away.
  16. The next morning Aleister's illusory body began to fade. He had arranged it before he was sealed, knowing his friends would need him if Zoroa returned. Endymion and Verre said goodbye as he vanished.

The release of Burst Protocol (Feb 2026) has fundamentally transformed the Magistus archetype from a rogue strategy into a Tier 1 contender. The introduction of Spenta, the Magistus Sealer and the fusion boss Invoked Magistus Omega has solved the deck's historical "Normal Summon Bottleneck."

The modern strategy, often referred to as "Magistus Dracotail," leverages Spenta's discard effect for hyper-consistency and its GY effect for insulation against negation. This convergence of engines allows the deck to build resilient boards featuring non-targeting banishment and powerful negates, fulfilling the lore's promise of a true "Academy of Fusion Masters."

1. Ignition: Discard this card to add 1 "Magistus" monster (usually Zoroa) to your hand. This effectively gives you 9-12 copies of your starter.
2. GY Effect: Banish from GY to equip a Magistus from Extra Deck to a monster you control. This insulates you from hand traps like Effect Veiler on your Normal Summon.

Role: Primary Combo Enabler & Tuner

The heart of the combo. Searchable via Spenta. Zoroa's ability to equip Artemis provides a search, and its status as a Level 4 Tuner enables Level 8 Synchro plays into Draco Berserker of the Tenyi or PSY-Framelord Omega.

Crowley, the Gifted Magistus

Role: The Bridge to Invoked

Replaces the old "Grimoires" version.
1. Self-Summon: If added to hand (e.g., via Artemis), you can Special Summon it immediately.
2. Fusion Material: Treated as "Aleister the Invoker" when used as fusion material, unlocking access to Invoked Magistus Omega without running bricks.

Role: Spell/Trap Searcher

Still crucial for accessing the archetype's backrow or Trismagistus for extension. Spenta can also equip her with protection from the ED.

Role: The New Boss Monster & Removal

Materials: "Aleister the Invoker" (Crowley) + 1 Fusion/Synchro/Xyz/Link.
Effect: On Special Summon, banish 1 card from your GY and 1 card on the field (Non-targeting removal!).
Floating: If destroyed, Special Summons a Level 4 Spellcaster from Deck and equips to it for +1000 ATK.

Artemis, the Magistus Moon Maiden becomes Borreload Savage Dragon, then Spenta and Endymion, the Crescent Magistus feed Magistus Chorozo, Summon Sorceress and Akashic Magician, closing the Magistus half on Zoroa, the Magistus Verethragna. From there Fairy Tail - Luna and Matchgiru make Fairy Tail - Wiccat under Fairy Tail Ball, loading Once Upon a Fairy Tail and Tails of the Fairy Tails for Teller of Fairy Tails, a revived Fairy Tail - Snow and a second Wiccat, with Snow banishing the spent Magistus pieces to reset Once Upon a Fairy Tail. Strengths

  • Hyper-Consistency: Spenta acts as 3 more copies of any starter.
  • Resilience: Can play through Negation by banishing Spenta from GY to force an equip.
  • Dracotail Synergy: Access to "Turn 0" plays using Faimena to fusion summon Omega on opponent's turn.

Weaknesses

  • Extra Deck Space: The "15-Card Problem" is real. You need toolbox equips, fusion targets, and synchros.
  • Graveyard Reliant: Strategies that banish your GY (like Shifter) can hurt the Spenta recursion loop.

Key Matchups

  • vs Yummy (Fiend): Omega is MVP. Banishing their GY resources shuts down their recursion.
  • vs Mitsurugi: Spenta's "Halve ATK" effect can surprisingly help clear their large Synchros.
  • vs K9 Control: A grind game. Use Spenta to generate "free" equips to out-resource them.
