An In-Depth Analysis of a Carnivorous Archetype
"The Predaplants are carnivorous flora that place Predator Counters on opponent's monsters, reducing them to Level 1 and making them Fusion Material. Chimerafflesia searches any Fusion or Polymerization card, while Verte Anaconda—now banned—could copy any Fusion Spell. With the advent of the Four Heavenly Dragons, they digest their prey and bloom with stolen Synchro and Pendulum power."
The Predaplant archetype thrives on a dual strategy of board control and explosive Fusion Summoning. Thematically designed around carnivorous plants, the deck weakens and marks opposing monsters with its signature Predator Counters before "consuming" them as materials for powerful DARK Fusion Monsters. This interplay of control and aggression defines the archetype's core gameplay loop and strategic identity. You can almost feel the vines coiling around your opponent's monsters.
Placing a Predator Counter on a monster reduces its Level to 1, disrupting Synchro and Xyz plays. More importantly, it marks them as targets to be tributed or used as Fusion Material by your Predaplant effects.
The ultimate goal is to summon powerful DARK Fusion monsters. Cards like Predaplant Chlamydosundew can even use your opponent's monsters with Predator Counters as material, turning their board into your advantage.
The deck's most crucial one-card starter. Discarding a monster lets it Special Summon any "Predaplant" from the deck.
Searches any "Fusion" or "Polymerization" spell when summoned by a Predaplant effect (once per duel).
The core advantage engine. When sent to the GY, it searches any "Predaplant" monster.
The premier control monster, placing Predator Counters and negating the effects of monsters that have them.
A powerful boss that negates Special Summons and can revive itself from the Graveyard.
Normal Summon Ophrys Scorpio. Activate its effect, discarding Byblisp to summon Darlingtonia Cobra from your deck.
Both Byblisp and Cobra trigger. Chain Byblisp as Chain Link 1 and Cobra as Chain Link 2. Cobra searches a Fusion spell, and Byblisp searches a Predaplant monster, protected from Ash Blossom.
Use the searched Fusion spell (e.g., Instant Fusion) to summon Ambulomelides, which searches for a "Predap" Spell/Trap like Predaplanning to set up disruption.
Role: Monster effect negation.
Role: Non-targeting banish.
Role: GY disruption & Fusion play.
Historically, the "Predaplant" archetype operated as a fragile, strictly linear combo deck notoriously reliant on the Normal Summon of Ophrys Scorpio. Following the widespread prohibition of Verte Anaconda, the strategy struggled to maintain a cohesive identity.
The release of the Blazing Dominion (BLZD) core set in early 2026 fundamentally re-engineered the archetype. By introducing new Tuners, Extenders, and Pendulum-Fusion hybrids, the strategy transitioned from a brittle Fusion-centric build into a highly resilient, mid-range Synchro-Fusion hybrid.
The Foundational Starter: On Normal/Special Summon, adds any "Predap" card from Deck to hand (universally tutoring the spell/trap infrastructure).
GY Utility: Banish from GY to either place a Predator Counter on a face-up monster OR set "Polymerization" from the GY/banished zone.
The Premier Extender: Free Special Summon from hand if you control a Predaplant/Starving Venom. On SS, optionally adds "Polymerization" from Deck.
Super Poly Enabler: Targets a face-up monster to convert its Attribute to DARK. If SS from the GY, you draw 1 card—repairing Fusion card disadvantage.
The Synchro Convergence: On Synchro Summon, Special Summons a Predaplant/Starving Venom from Extra Deck or GY (creating instant access to Level 7 Synchros).
Asymmetric Disruption: If opponent Special Summons: Banish this card & a Poly from GY to Fusion Summon immediately during their turn.
Normal Spell. Send 1 "Predap" card from Deck to GY to add "Polymerization" or "Fusion" Spell. (Locks SS to Plant/Dragon). Banish from GY to destroy your own Fusion when opp SS, triggering localized board wipes.
Pay 2000 LP, target 1 Effect monster on field. SS an Extra Deck monster with same Type/Attribute, diff Level (effects negated). Then instantly Fusion Summon using both. Spell Speed 4 (Cannot be responded to).
Level 8 | DARK | Dragon | Fusion
On SS: Target 1 monster; ATK becomes 0, negate effects, make it DARK. Quick Effect: When opp activates a card/effect, Fusion Summon a DARK Fusion using materials from either field (must include this card). Avoids targeted negation effortlessly.
Level 10 | DARK | Dragon | Pendulum Fusion
The Negation Loop: Pendulum Effect auto-places Predator Counters on Opp SS monsters immediately. Paired with Dragostapelia, creates an inescapable passive negation lock before Trigger Effects can even activate.
This optimized sequence converts a single Longinephila into a high-tier Synchro negate, replaces card advantage, establishes Fusion bodies, and primes Graveyard interaction for the opponent's turn.

The Pure OTK & Burn Paradigm Shift
The release of the continuous-impact Normal Spell "Thorns of Violet Poison" (initially translated as "Thorn Fangs of Violet Poison") in Battles of Legend: Glorious Gallery completely redefines the Predaplant strategy!
Instead of playing a slow game of resource attrition and wearing your opponent down over time, this card transforms Predaplant into a lightning-fast One-Turn Kill (OTK) powerhouse. By summoning a specific dragon to reduce opposing monsters' Attack to 0, you can wipe their entire board and deal massive burn damage based on their original Attack values—easily winning the duel in a single move!
Understanding "Thorns of Violet Poison" in Simple Terms
"Target 1 'Starving Venom Fusion Dragon' you control; destroy as many monsters your opponent controls with lower ATK as possible, then you can discard your entire hand, and if you do, inflict damage to your opponent equal to the destroyed monsters' total original ATK, also the targeted monster cannot attack this turn."
Super Easy to Search (Rule Clause): The card has a rule stating: "(This card is always treated as a 'Predap' card.)" This means it behaves exactly like a Predaplant card. You can search for it directly from your deck using monsters like Ambulomelides or Longinephila, so you always have it ready!
The "Then" Board Wipe (Resolution): The spell destroys all weaker enemy monsters first. If (and only if) at least one opposing monster is successfully destroyed, you can then discard your hand to deal damage. If your opponent protects their monsters so they aren't destroyed, you don't discard any cards!
Full Damage Payoffs (Original ATK): The burn damage deals points equal to the destroyed monsters' original Attack printed on their cards. So even if their current Attack was reduced to 0 by your card effects, you still inflict their full, maximum original damage directly to your opponent's Life Points!
Since the spell card requires you to target a face-up "Starving Venom Fusion Dragon", choosing the right dragon is key to success. Here are the core targets you will use in your extra deck:
Starving Venom Fusion Dragon of the Four Heavenly Dragons
Why it is the best: When summoned, this retrained Level 8 boss permanently reduces any enemy threat's Attack to 0 and negates its effects! This ensures the monster is weaker than your dragon (2800 ATK), letting the Spell easily wipe it out while dealing massive burn damage based on its original, printed Attack!
Supreme King Dragon Starving Venom
Why it is useful: If your main Starving Venom Fusion Dragon is in the Graveyard, you can summon this Level 8 dragon and copy its name and effects from the Graveyard. This turns it into a valid target for the Spell, ensuring you can still pull off your OTK even when resources are low!
Level 10 Fusion & Pendulum Dragon
Why it is useful: A massive boss that negates monster effects, absorbs Attack, and sweeps cards. When placed in the Pendulum Zone, its passive effect automatically places counters on opponent's monsters the moment they are Special Summoned, creating an absolute negation lock!
Why We Only Run Exactly One Copy
In Yu-Gi-Oh!, an OTK strategy is only good if you can consistently get your key cards into your hand. Because "Thorns of Violet Poison" counts as a "Predap" card, you can easily pull it out of your Deck using a wide variety of search cards:
| Card Image | Searching Card | Card Type | How It Searches "Thorns of Violet Poison" |
|---|---|---|---|
|
Predaplant Ambulomelides Missing: 66309175 |
Predaplant Ambulomelides | Level 5 Fusion Monster | When Fusion Summoned, it lets you add any "Predap" Spell/Trap card directly from your deck to your hand. This is your primary searcher mid-combo! |
|
Predaplant Longinephila Missing: 44994712 |
Predaplant Longinephila | Level 1 Tuner Monster | When Normal or Special Summoned, it automatically searches your deck for any "Predap" card. Extremely easy to summon and trigger! |
|
Predaplant Sarraceniant Missing: 53819028 |
Predaplant Sarraceniant | Level 1 Effect Monster | When sent from the field to the Graveyard by a card effect (usually as Fusion Material), it searches your deck for any "Predap" card. |
|
Predapractice Missing: 31643613 |
Predapractice | Normal Spell Card | Special Summons a Predaplant from your hand, then searches your deck for any "Predap" card to extend your board. |
How to Win in One Turn with 10,000+ Damage
Here is a simple, step-by-step guide to pulling off a massive One-Turn Kill (OTK) combo. You will learn how to summon your key monsters, search for your spell, summon your boss dragon to weaken the opponent's monster to 0 Attack, and unleash "Thorns of Violet Poison" to deal massive damage and win the duel!
Normal Summon your key starter Predaplant Ophrys Scorpio. Discard 1 monster to Special Summon Predaplant Darlingtonia Cobra directly from your Deck.
Upon being Special Summoned, Darlingtonia Cobra's effect triggers to let you search your deck and add Ultra Polymerization (or any "Fusion" spell) to your hand.
Activate Ultra Polymerization by paying 2000 Life Points. Fuse Scorpio and Cobra together to summon the crucial Extra Deck extender Predaplant Ambulomelides.
Trigger Ambulomelides' on-summon effect to search your deck for the Level 1 Tuner Predaplant Longinephila. Then, banish Ultra Polymerization from your GY to Special Summon Scorpio and Cobra back from the GY!
Use Ambulomelides' active effect: tribute the revived Cobra to Special Summon the key fusion material Predaplant Chlamydosundew directly from your Deck.
Normal Summon Predaplant Longinephila that you searched earlier. Its summon effect immediately triggers, letting you add the devastating spell Thorns of Violet Poison directly from your deck to your hand!
Use Chlamydosundew's active effect to fuse Scorpio and your Level 5 Ambulomelides together on the field to Fusion Summon Starving Venom Fusion Dragon of the Four Heavenly Dragons (2800 ATK)!
Trigger the Four Heavenly Dragons' on-summon effect: target the opponent's strongest, most dangerous face-up monster. Its current Attack becomes exactly 0 and its effects are completely negated!
Play Thorns of Violet Poison, targeting your Four Heavenly Dragons. The spell resolves, instantly destroying all enemy monsters with lower Attack (including the 0 ATK threat!).
Choose to discard your entire hand. Your opponent instantly takes effect burn damage equal to the combined original Attack of the destroyed monsters, routinely dealing over 10,000+ total damage for a spectacular victory!
Graveyard Synergy & Going-First Tactics
Discarding your entire hand sounds risky, but the Predaplant deck turns this into a massive advantage! You want to discard cards that have effects in the Graveyard. For example, discarding Predaplant Byblisp instantly triggers it in the Graveyard to search for another monster, immediately replenishing your hand! Other discarded cards like Longinephila or Predaplanning can be banished from the GY to place counters or disrupt your opponent on their turn.
Predaplant Dheadevil (Level 6): Summoned easily using Longinephila. During your turn, you can destroy opponent Spells and Traps up to the number of monsters with a Predator Counter and destroy them. Use Dheadevil to sweep backrow clean before activating your win condition!
Predaplant Baalthea (Level 4 Synchro): Actively protects your plays by Special Summoning your dragons back from the Graveyard if they are negated or destroyed. It also lets you Fusion Summon instantly on your opponent's turn to dodge target removals!
In competitive tournament play, if you win Game 1, your opponent will typically force you to go first in Game 2. Going first renders your OTK Spell card useless since the opponent will not control any monsters to destroy.
In this scenario, pivot your deck into a defensive, oppressive control board! Side out a few OTK combo extenders and focus on establishing a defensive wall centered around Predaplant Dragostapelia and Starving Venom Wing Dragon to distribute counters, negate opposing monster effects, and seal the game!
