The Relinquished archetype is a classic control strategy focused on a unique parasitic mechanic: absorbing an opponent's monsters and turning their power against them. This playstyle is executed through a small but potent lineup of strange and powerful entities, primarily Ritual and Fusion monsters known as "Eyes Restrict". The deck excels at non-destructive removal, bypassing many forms of protection, and thrives in a "go-second" environment where it can dismantle established boards.
The Ritual foundation. Absorbs one monster to steal its stats. While outdated as a boss, it is the essential search target for Pre-Preparation of Rites, making the entire engine consistent.
The proactive board-breaker. After absorbing a monster, it prevents all other monsters from attacking or changing position. A prime target for Instant Fusion.
The reactive disruption. A Quick Effect allows it to absorb an opponent's monster when they activate an effect, negating it and all other copies of that monster. The deck's primary interactive piece.
The Link-1 tool. Absorbs any monster it points to. Its main purpose is to enable the "Kaiju Slingshot" combo, turning a Kaiju given to the opponent into your own high-ATK monster.
This go-second combo removes any problematic monster your opponent controls and establishes a powerful attacker in one fluid motion.
Tribute your opponent's most threatening monster to Special Summon a Kaiju to their field in a zone your Extra Monster Zone will point to.
Normal Summon any Level 1 monster (like Millennium-Eyes Illusionist) and Link Summon Relinquished Anima, ensuring it points to the Kaiju.
Activate Anima's effect to equip the Kaiju to itself. Anima now has the high ATK of the Kaiju, and you have removed a threat while building your own.
A Relinquished end board is not about quantity, but quality. It establishes multiple layers of disruption across different zones to control the opponent's turn.
The primary on-field interaction.
Provides a Quick Effect monster negate and absorption. It's the central pillar of your control setup, ready to intercept the opponent's key starters.
Reactive disruption from an unseen position.
A powerful hand-trap that equips another of the opponent's monsters to your "Eyes Restrict" monster, offering a second, unexpected interruption.
Follow-up plays and resource extension.
The final layer of interaction. Its graveyard effect can be banished to provide a third monster absorption, completely disrupting the opponent's strategy.
