A Strategic Analysis of the Dragon Link Engine
Viewing: Traditional Dragon Link Strategy
"The Rokkets are living ammunition—dragons designed to be loaded into and fired from Borrel Link monsters. When targeted by a Link monster's effect, they self-destruct with devastating consequences, then reload from the deck during the End Phase. Borreload, Borrelend, and Borrelsword are the weapons; Rokkets are the inexhaustible magazine."
The "Rokket" archetype, a formidable cadre of DARK Dragon monsters, operates on a brilliantly simple and evocative design principle: they are live ammunition, waiting to be fired by the powerful "Borrel" Link Monsters that act as their cannons. This core concept manifests as a "fire and reload" playstyle, where Borrel monsters target the Rokkets, triggering their destructive effects before they replace themselves from the deck, creating a self-sustaining loop. While potent, the archetype's true power was unlocked when it became the hyper-efficient engine for the metagame behemoth known as "Dragon Link," a strategy that leverages the Rokket core to summon a relentless barrage of powerful, generic Dragon monsters.
The heart of the engine. A Level 4 Tuner that can destroy a face-up card you control to Special Summon any "Rokket" monster from your Deck.
A Quick-Play Spell that Special Summons any "Rokket" monster directly from the Deck, making it the most powerful one-card starter.
A LINK-1 monster that searches "Boot Sector Launch" and provides recovery, ensuring consistency.
When targeted by a Link monster's effect, it destroys itself and sends one monster on the field to the GY (non-targeting).
Destroys itself to banish one card from the opponent's Extra Deck, removing key threats before they can be summoned.
A crucial extender. When sent to the GY, it searches any "Rokket" monster from the Deck.
Activate Quick Launch to summon Rokket Tracer. Immediately Link Summon Striker Dragon.
Striker Dragon searches Boot Sector Launch. Extend with another Dragon to Link into Dragunity Knight - Romulus to search Dragon Ravine.
Use Dragon Ravine to send Absorouter Dragon, searching another Rokket. Use Boot Sector Launch to swarm the field and Synchro Summon Borreload Savage Dragon.
The unbreakable wall and the deck's ultimate boss monster, designed for maximum disruption and resilience.
The primary omni-negate, capable of stopping any card or effect by using Borrel Counters.
Provides reactive, non-destruction removal by bouncing a card.
The "Burst Protocol" update fundamentally restructures the deck. We move away from the "Dragon Good Stuff" pile that relied on generic WIND/LIGHT engines. The new support imposes a DARK Extra Deck Lock, forcing a transition to a pure, cohesive "Rokket Link" ecosystem granting unprecedented consistency.
The "Stratos" of the deck. Searches any Level 7 DARK Dragon. Imposes the DARK lock.
Link-3 Bridge. Searches "Double Interlock" (Fusion Spell) and recycles resources from GY.
Fusion Extender. Equips Link Monsters from GY. Destroys cards when used as Link Material.
Anti-Tribute Fortress. Omni-negates by popping a Rokket. Tags out during Battle Phase.
The release of the Blazing Dominion set completely rectified the historic Link-2 bottleneck of Dragon Link. The strategy has shifted from a sprawling generalized Dragon build into a highly systematic, recursive, "Rokket" centralized build anchored by the revolutionary Breachborrel Dragon.
The epicenter of the new strategy. Searches any "Borrel" Spell/Trap on summon. Its Quick Effect boosts a DARK monster by 500 ATK, and if that monster leaves, Special Summons a Rokket from the deck—triggering self-destruction effects seamlessly.
When targeted by a Link Monster (like Breachborrel) and destroyed, it triggers a game-ending escalation: Special Summoning up to 4 "Rokket" monsters simultaneously from hand, deck, GY, and banishment.
A dual-layered interruption mechanism. It banishes itself to negate effects (evading Droplet/DRNM), and can Quick-Link Summon during the opponent's turn using their own Link-2 or lower monsters as material.
The 2026 iteration utilizes highly condensed, linear paths. Rokket Loader initiates a deterministic 1-card combo that seamlessly routes through Breachborrel to establish insurmountable board presence.
Normal Summon Rokket Loader. Search Absorouter Dragon. Link Loader into Striker Dragon to search Boot Sector Launch, while Absorouter searches Rokket Tracer.
Establish Tracer and Silverrokket via Boot Sector. Link into Breachborrel Dragon. Trigger Breachborrel to search Borrel Reboot. Use Breachborrel's Quick Effect to pop Silverrokket (banishing from opponent's Extra Deck) and Special Summon a fresh Rokket from the deck.
Breachborrel's perfect downward arrows easily activate Guardragon Pisty to recur Tracer. Climb into Trisborrel Dragon to search Double Interlock.
Activate Double Interlock to Fusion Summon Borreload Fatalflare Dragon from GY materials. Sequence terminates in a massive Link-5 like Borrelend Dragon or Borrelshroud Dragon, backed by the fetched Borrel Reboot Trap.
The 2026 meta is defined by the Dominus Trap Series. Dominus Spark can be activated from the hand to banish an opponent's monster, but permanently locks the player out of EARTH, WATER, FIRE, and WIND effects.
Because the pure Rokket/Borrel strategy operates almost exclusively on the DARK attribute (alongside LIGHT Bystials), this severe restriction is functionally non-existent for Dragon Link. The deck leverages it as a penalty-free, turn-zero banish.
Beginner Guide Available
A 1.5-card Black Metal Dragon line that converts early Striker Dragon access into the Red-Eyes metal package, then bridges through Borrelshroud and Fatalflare to finish on Borrelend Dragon, I:P Masquerena, Red-Eyes Black Fullmetal Dragon, and additional hand follow-up.

LOW IMPACT: The Rokket archetype has been moderately restricted by the TCG banlist, with Striker Dragon limited.
Meta Implications: Thanks to its flexible combo lines and the 2026 expansion cards, Rokket remains playable despite the limitation.
