"The Shiranui are undead samurai whose spirits burn brightest when banished. Each Shiranui triggers powerful effects when removed from the GY, and their Synchro monsters—Samuraisaga, Sunsaga—manipulate banished Zombies to destroy cards and gain protection. Death in battle only makes them more dangerous."
- Hundreds of years ago, the founder of the Shiranui Style, a school of swordsmanship made to fight the Mayakashi, was struck down by them and sealed inside a sword. That Spectralsword passed down to the style's most talented disciples.
- His soul, Samuraisaga, never gave up on stopping the Mayakashi. He taught his successors the style's secrets, and in a fierce battle centuries ago he curbed their Yokai Magic so badly that for years they could not act openly.
- The swordsmith Smith, whose relative the Mayakashi had killed, forged blades day and night, and Spiritmaster took them to shrines to be blessed by the Kami and Buddha, so they could cut the Mayakashi.
- The Mayakashi are yokai whose magic works only in the dead of night. Hating daylight, they want to plunge the world into eternal night and rule it. By day they hide in human form: the winged Tengu as Hajun, the ice yokai Yuki-Onna as Yuki-Musume.
- Their leader, Yoko, had the greatest Yokai Magic of all. By day she became Dakki, a woman of unearthly beauty who deceived people's hearts while she tried to learn the ways of the Shiranui Style.
- In a battle with the Mayakashi, Samurai, the current heir, used the Synthesis formation to take Samuraisaga into his own body and became Shogunsaga, hunting them down.
- That was not enough to seal the persistent Mayakashi, so Spiritmaster and the others created the Samsara formation, giving Samuraisaga's soul a body for a time. Revived as Sunsaga, he sealed the Mayakashi away.
- Time passed, and the Mayakashi began to stir again. But a new heir, Squire, inherited the style, and the Spectralsword became the Spectralsword Shade.
- While training, Squire had a fateful meeting with a woman: Dakki, the disguise of Yoko, who was slowly getting her power back. That meeting would make the war fiercer.
- Touched by Yokai Magic in that meeting, Squire fused it with her sword through the Success formation and became Shiranui Skillsaga Supremacy.
- As Squire fought Yoko, Yuki-Onna crept up on her and stole her power. With the strength of both the Mayakashi and the Shiranui, Yuki-Onna, the Absolute Zero Mayakashi set out to make the World of Eternal Night real.
Philosophy of the Shiranui Clan
The Shiranui archetype is a FIRE Zombie-type theme centered on Synchro Summoning, defined by a unique and powerful core mechanic: generating advantage from the banish pile. Unlike many strategies where the Graveyard is the primary resource zone, Shiranui treats both the Graveyard and the Banish Pile as active extensions of the hand. This philosophy can be distilled into a central principle: "Banish & Benefit." The identity of these spectral samurai of the Shiranui clan is mechanically critical, granting them access to one of the most robust pools of generic Zombie support in the game.

The Interruption
During the opponent's Main Phase, you activate Skillsaga Supremacy's Quick Effect to Special Summon the banished Sunsaga. On summon, Sunsaga's effect triggers, allowing you to return other banished Synchros to the Extra Deck to destroy an equal number of cards your opponent controls'?a powerful, non-targeting board wipe.
Banlist Impact
While the Shiranui core remains untouched, the archetype's reliance on generic Zombie support means restrictions on generic support cards do have an impact.
