"From beyond the veil of known space, the Aliens descend—bio-organic horrors that infect everything they touch. Their insidious A-Counters spread like a cosmic plague, weakening the molecular bonds of any creature unfortunate enough to encounter them. They do not conquer through brute force; they assimilate, turning the strength of their enemies into nourishment for their ever-evolving hive. Resistance is not futile—it is merely delayed."

Alien Mother
I · The mother
  1. The Duel World reaches even into outer space, and Aliens searching the cosmos for habitable planets have set their eyes on it. Alien Mother is, as her name says, the mother of the whole Alien race: her cells are inside every other Alien.
  2. To invade a planet they use the flying saucer Muusik'i. It circles the target in a stationary orbit and sends down landing parties to take the areas where it has air superiority.
  3. Some of the landing party specialize in combat, and they take the planet's surface with their various abilities and incredible fighting power. The whole world trembles at their swift progress.
  4. Alien technology is biotech, and its core is the "A" Cell, a parasitic organism that can take over a mind and body.
  5. An incubator cultures "A" Cells for use as weapons: a stable supply of cells is indispensable.
  6. A bomb-like capsule packed with "A" Cells. When it explodes, the cells disperse in a fog-like cloud.
  7. New "A" Cell technology appears every day. Anything around the coordinates of an "A" Cell can be warped through space with pinpoint accuracy. What terrifying technology!
  8. The cells can also brainwash their targets…
  9. …and work as high-grade explosives: an enemy infested with "A" Cells is blown up, sowing unease among the monsters around it.
  10. In secret, the Aliens created the magnum opus of their "A" Cell research, the ultimate monster for battle. It is bred in an Otherworld that isn't part of the Duel World…
  11. …and Muusik'i will pick it up so it can "greet" everyone. With Cosmic Horror Gangi'el, the strongest creature ever created, they plan to take control of world after world. Will they soon come to the Duel World…?

Executive Summary

The 'Alien' archetype, initially introduced in the Power of the Duelist booster set, is a Reptile-based, control-oriented strategy fundamentally defined by its unique "A-Counter" mechanic. The archetype's original design was slow and uncompetitive, but it has experienced a significant revitalization through its powerful synergy with other Reptile-type engines, most notably Ogdoadic and Reptilianne. Modern Alien decks have transcended their original design to become a potent, albeit niche, rogue strategy capable of executing a game-winning, field-locking combo.

The "A-Counter" System

The "A-Counter" is the defining feature of the archetype. Its power is derived from other cards that interact with it, often leading to a powerful control lock.

1. Placing Counters

Use cards like Alien Dog or the Graveyard effect of "A" Cell Recombination Device to place A-Counters on opponent's monsters.

2. Leveraging Counters

Cards like Cosmic Slicer Zer'oll or Alien Hypno then interact with these counters to gain control of the board, restricting the opponent's plays.

Alien Kid

Alien FTK: Premature Burial Loop into Machu Mech and Dark Strike Fighter

Beginner Guide Available

A three-card first-turn kill. Cosmic Fortress Gol'gar returns your face-up Spells to your hand and places an A-Counter for each one, so Premature Burial revives Gol'gar over and over while Code A Ancient Ruins spends the counters to bring Alien Ammonite back. Each revival opens a new Synchro or Link Summon: Nothung burns 800, Worldsea Dragon Zealantis resets every monster, and Geonator Transverser gives your opponent Ancient Sacred Wyvern. The 7200 LP you spend on Burials pumps that Wyvern to 8500 ATK under their control, and Number 33: Chronomaly Machu Mech burns them for the 6400 difference. Dark Strike Fighter Tributes itself for the last 1400. Your opponent never gets a turn. Starting hand: Alien Ammonite + Unexpected Dai + Premature Burial. Deck: Alien Shocktrooper, Code A Ancient Ruins, Black Garden. Extra Deck: Gol'gar, M-Frame, Zer'oll, Nothung, Ancient Sacred Wyvern, Zealantis, Garden Rose Maiden, Geonator Transverser, Saryuja Skull Dread, Muddy Mudragon, Dark Strike Fighter, Machu Mech. A hand trap that stops Gol'gar or Premature Burial ends the loop, and you finish on 800 LP.

Final Endboard

Cosmic Slicer Zer'oll
Missing: 1487805
Alien Kid
  • Cosmic Slicer Zer'oll: A Link 3 monster that prevents monsters with A-Counters from activating effects and forces them into defense position.

Competitive Analysis

Strengths (Pros)

  • Powerful Lockdown: The "Zer'oll Lock" can single-handedly win the game against unprepared combo decks.
  • External Synergy: The deck thrives by leveraging powerful Reptile-type support from other archetypes like Ogdoadic.
  • Versatile Toolbox: Can summon a variety of useful Link and Synchro monsters to deal with different situations.

Weaknesses (Cons)

  • Historic Flaws: In a pure build, the deck is slow and lacks a powerful, in-archetype win condition.
  • Vulnerable to Disruption: Highly susceptible to hand traps that negate early plays.
  • Reliance on External Support: The deck's modern viability is almost entirely dependent on cards like Snake Rain that are outside its main archetype.

Hybrid Engines & Tech Cards

  • Ogdoadic Engine: Provides graveyard setup and revival effects to fuel the combo.
  • Reptilianne Engine: Offers ATK reduction, negation, and consistent Link summoning capabilities.
  • Snake Rain: A single, powerful spell that instantly sets up the graveyard for a game-winning combo.

Core Archetype Components: The Arsenal of "Alien"

This section provides a detailed overview of each card's individual role and effects.

Alien Kid

Level 2 Effect Monster

A crucial floodgate that places an A-Counter on every monster Special Summoned by the opponent, a fundamental component of the archetype's modern lockdown strategy.

Alien Hypno

Level 4 Gemini Monster

Has the ability to take control of an opponent's monster with A-Counters, providing a powerful form of non-destruction removal.

"A" Cell Recombination Device

Quick-Play Spell

A versatile tool that can place A-Counters on a monster or be banished from the GY to search for an "Alien" monster, a key element for consistency.

Planet Pollutant Virus

Normal Trap Card
