Beyond the Brave · The Seven Barian Emperors

Barian's

Chaos Xyz and the Seventh Untopia

Lore Archive

In Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL, Barian World is ruled by seven Emperors: Nash, Dumon, Merag, Vector, Alito, Girag and Mizael. Their personal Numbers are 101 to 107, and Rank-Up-Magic Barian's Force turns each one into its Chaos form.

Beyond the Brave tells Vector's side of the story. The Umbral Horror monsters and Number 104: Masquerade V are his, and CXyz Hope Chaos Barian Dragon imagines a timeline where Vector, not Nash, defeated the other Emperors and absorbed their power. It is a dark twin of Nash's CXyz Barian Hope built from Vector's Number C5: Chaos Chimera Dragon, and it wears the crest of Don Thousand, the god of Barian World.

Barian's Hope closes the arc. Its artwork restages episode 138, where Yuma reaches for Vector as Don Thousand pulls him away, drawn as Number 39: Utopia catching Number 104: Masquerade by the arm.

Gameplay Evolution Summary

Beyond the Brave (OCG 18 July 2026 · TCG 8 October 2026): four Barian's cards turn the Number 101–107 family from Rank-Up-Magic high rolls into a control deck. V Umbral Horror ranks up without a Spell, CXyz Hope Chaos Barian Dragon stacks on any Chaos Number and stops searches, and Barian's Seventh Untopia limits every player to two non-Number Extra Deck summons a turn.

Archetype Overview

A going-first control deck, and a finisher any Chaos Number deck can borrow.

"Barian's" is the name family of the Seven Emperors' own cards: their Rank-Up-Magic, their Spells and Traps, and now a boss monster. For most of their history these were high-roll Rank-Up plays that lost a card to every interruption. Beyond the Brave fixes that with a Main Deck engine. The Umbral Horror monsters make , ranks it into Number C104 from the Graveyard, and stacks on top.

The result is a going-first lock. The Dragon stops your opponent adding cards from their Deck to their hand except by drawing. lets each player Special Summon only two non-Number monsters from the Extra Deck per turn, and negates the first card that tries to break the board. Because the Dragon can sit on any Number C101 to C107, the same finisher also fits Shark, Galaxy-Eyes and plain Rank 4 decks.

Three ideas behind the deck

  1. Rank up without Rank-Up-Magic

V Umbral Horror banishes itself from the GY to put a Number one Rank higher on top of a Masquerade Xyz. It counts as an Xyz Summon and keeps every material. Rank-Up-Magic Limited Barian's Force is the backup.

  2. Both locks point outward

Numbers don't count toward Untopia's limit and the Dragon's lock only affects your opponent. Your own engine spends one of its two non-Number summons, on the Dragon itself.

  3. Materials are the resource

Each material is 1000 ATK on the Dragon. Its own effect, Barian's Hope and Barian's Seal all add more, and the Seal takes them from your opponent.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Very hard to break going first, and much weaker going second.

Strengths

  • Two floodgates at once. A Thunder Dragon Colossus-style search lock plus an Extra Deck limit that most of this deck's own summons don't count toward.
  • Chaos evolution without a Spell. V Umbral Horror's Rank-Up comes from the GY, so Spell negation doesn't stop it.
  • A boss that grows. The Dragon nets +1 material and +1000 ATK a turn while taking 2 cards off the top of your opponent's Deck.
  • Built-in recovery. Seal revives 2 Umbral Horror monsters from the GY, Hope revives a Masquerade, and Thousand can place a new Untopia on either player's turn.
  • Many one-card starts. Gorgonic Umbral Horror, V Umbral Horror, Seventh Tachyon and Untopia's search all lead into the same line.

Weaknesses

  • Search choke points. Gorgonic, V Umbral Horror, Untopia and Masquerade V all search from the Deck, and Ash Blossom and Droll & Lock Bird punish each one.
  • Nibiru arrives early. The main line reaches its fifth summon before the Dragon exists.
  • Removal that doesn't activate. Kaiju and Lava Golem summon by Tributing the Dragon, which the Seal can't negate.
  • Relies on the Graveyard. V Umbral Horror is a DARK monster in the GY, which D.D. Crow, Bystials and Dimension Shifter all stop.
  • Weak going second. The deck has no board breakers, and the Untopia burn hits you as well.

Interruptions and what survives

What each common interruption costs the main line
Interruption Best moment What you still end on
Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring Gorgonic's search Gorgonic and your Normal Summon. A second starter (V Umbral Horror, Seventh Tachyon) picks the line back up one step later.
Droll & Lock Bird After the first search No more searches. Masquerade V's search can't be activated either, so V never reaches the GY to rank it up. You end on Masquerade V unless a Rank-Up-Magic is already in hand.
Infinite Impermanence Masquerade V Chained to the search, it only stops the Seal: the detach cost still sends V to the GY, so the Dragon lands without protection.
D.D. Crow / Bystials V Umbral Horror in the GY No C104 from V. A Seventh Ascension in hand can fetch Rank-Up-Magic Limited Barian's Force and still reach the Dragon.
Nibiru, the Primal Being Fifth summon (Shining and Thousand) No clean answer. Skipping Thousand's optional revive moves the fifth summon to C104, but Nibiru still Tributes it.

Competitive Verdict

The support takes the Seven Emperors from casual Rank-Up decks to a real control strategy.

In the Advanced Format, Barian's is at its best as a going-first control deck or as a compact Rank 4 engine. The research grades it a Tier 2 anti-meta deck. It is vulnerable to hand traps at a few single choke points, but a search lock backed by an Extra Deck limit is one of the hardest going-first boards in modern Xyz. Going second it struggles: the deck has no board breakers and can't play through several negations.

Tier 2 control

Go first, set up the lock and Seal, and win over several turns with a Dragon that grows every turn.

Genesys

Heavily pointed

Genesys has fewer omni-negates and hand traps, so the engine carries heavy points. The Dragon alone uses the whole 100-point budget.

  • CXyz Hope Chaos Barian Dragon 100
  • Barian's Seventh Untopia 33
  • Number 104: Masquerade V 20
  • Gorgonic Umbral Horror 10
  • V Umbral Horror 7
  • Shining Umbral Horror 7

Core engine ratios

Recommended copies for a dedicated Umbral Horror Barian's deck
Card Copies Why
Gorgonic Umbral Horror3The best starter: summons itself and searches.
V Umbral Horror3A second starter, and the Rank-Up that needs no Spell.
Shining Umbral Horror2–3Extender that draws a card. Weak in the opening hand alone.
Thousand Umbral Horror2Places Untopia from the Deck and revives itself.
Barian's Seventh Untopia2–3The floodgate. Thousand finds it too, so 2 is enough in lean builds.
Barian's Hope1–2More copies risk opening too many Spells.
Barian's Seal1–2Masquerade V usually searches it.
Seventh Ascension2–3Finds any Barian's card, including Limited Barian's Force.
Seventh Tachyon1Reveal Masquerade V to add V Umbral Horror.
Rank-Up-Magic Limited Barian's Force1Backup Rank-Up when V Umbral Horror is banished.
Extra Deck5–62 Masquerade V, 1 C104 Victory, 1–2 Dragons, and a spare Number C for Barian's Hope.

Fill the rest with hand traps. The engine needs few slots, and its own interaction is mostly on the board.
