"The Dark Scorpion thieves guild operates in the criminal underground of the dueling world. Led by Don Zaloog, these rogues specialize in hand destruction and deck disruption, picking the opponent's resources clean with every successful attack. They fight not with honor but with cunning—and in the shadows, cunning is king."
They're the famous five-man team, the Dark Scorpions: "There's no treasure we can't steal!" Before their flawless teamwork, the traps guarding the royal family's treasure rooms were nothing more than children's toys, and the tattoos on their arms are their calling card (Master Guide 1).
The leader, who has stolen many treasures, and the one the rest rely on. His eyepatch is decorated with a piece of treasure from one of his first tomb robberies, and he has a really cool, yet simple, "guns akimbo" look.
A special photo of the Don in his younger days. Before he got his beloved handguns, he was a master of fighting with a knife in each hand, and it seems he didn't have his eyepatch yet. His hairdo hasn't changed.
Number 2 and the brains of the team: usually calm and composed, though he sometimes gets nervous, and if his glasses get dirty his mood sours. Any trap Cliff comes across is useless. He's the one most feared after the Don.
The biggest member: a quiet guy whose arms can easily lift a stone sarcophagus. He's very nervous around Meanae and never speaks his mind, but the rest of the gang knows exactly how he feels.
The only lady among the Dark Scorpions. Her flexible, lateral thinking has got them out of trouble many times, and she controls her whip as if it were part of her own body. When she stops her teammates fighting, the mood returns to normal almost instantly; the Don feels indebted to her.
Still only half a man: an apprentice who trains hard every day. His biggest problem is that he's a craven coward, but that might be useful in this line of work. He's confident in the arts of escape.
Led by the Don, they've got into some pretty hairy situations, but when the five work together they can overcome anything. By showing off their own specialties, disabling traps, herculean strength or finding a way out, they become more than the sum of their parts.
Flawless teamwork.
They pose together whenever they get the chance: at every meeting each brings ideas for poses, and they decide by majority vote. This is the proof of their solidarity and teamwork!!
The Dark Scorpion archetype is a relic of a bygone era, originally designed around inflicting battle damage to trigger disruptive effects. However, in the modern game, this strategy is obsolete. The competitive potential of Dark Scorpions is now realized exclusively through their integration into generic high-speed DARK Warrior Link strategies. They transition from an outdated thief gang into highly efficient material for summoning powerful Extra Deck monsters, leveraging their shared Attribute and Type to become a searchable and consistent engine core.
While their original effects are rarely used, the individual stats and levels of each Dark Scorpion member are critical to their modern role as combo material.
A Level 4 DARK Warrior, making him perfect fodder for Link-2 plays and a primary search target for generic Warrior support.
The Level 4 anchor of the archetype. Her status as a searchable Warrior and her ability to recycle resources (albeit slowly) make her invaluable.
A Level 3 DARK Warrior. This specific level is the key to accessing the Phantom Knights engine via Cherubini.
The deck's best starter. A one-card search for any key Dark Scorpion monster to begin your combo.
Isolde, Two Tales of the Noble Knights is currently banned in the TCG format.
Alternative: Use Knightmare Phoenix or other generic Link-2 monsters for DARK Warrior strategies.
The lynchpin of the entire strategy. This Link-2 monster turns any two Dark Scorpions into a full combo starter.
This walkthrough demonstrates how two simple Warriors, like Don Zaloog and Meanae the Thorn, can be converted into a powerful end board.
Start by getting two Dark Scorpion monsters (or any two warriors) onto the field. This can be done through a combination of Normal Summons and extenders.
Isolde, Two Tales of the Noble Knights is currently banned in the TCG format and cannot be used in tournament play.
Alternative: Use Knightmare Phoenix or Salamangreat Almiraj as tournament-legal Link options.
Link Summon Isolde, Two Tales of the Noble Knights (currently banned). Use her effects to search for a Warrior and Special Summon another from the deck by sending Equip Spells to the GY, often bringing out Dark Scorpion - Cliff the Trap Remover.
Use the Level 3 Dark Scorpions and other extenders to Link Summon Cherubini, then climb into The Phantom Knights of Rusty Bardiche. Use his effect to set Phantom Knights' Fog Blade and send a PK monster to the GY.
The goal of the Dark Scorpion engine is to produce a standard, powerful DARK Warrior endboard that establishes multiple forms of disruption.
Apollousa is currently banned. Use Accesscode Talker or Knightmare Unicorn as alternatives.
The Dark Scorpion archetype itself is largely untouched by the TCG banlist, but key synergistic cards it relies on are affected.
