"The Mikanko shrine maidens fight through Equip Spells that reflect all battle damage to the opponent. Their monsters cannot deal damage themselves, but their equipped rituals ensure that every attack received is returned manifold. They are pacifists with a paradox—they win by refusing to fight, letting the opponent destroy themselves."

Every few years to decades, the Heavenly Gate of the Mikanko appears together with an oracle. In the Amatobiraki ritual, young Mikanko dance for the heavens with the help of sacred beasts to call down the Kami of the Sun, who chooses the best dancer as her vessel. The candidates are raised by three great families, each heir to one of three sacred treasures, and by their branch families.

The Kami
Mitsurugi
Mikagami
Mitama
Ohime the Manifested Mikanko
Ohime
  1. The Mikanko the Kami chooses is enshrined as the living goddess Ohime, and uses the divine power she receives to bring the world bountiful blessings. A goddess of abundance with a kind heart, she is endlessly curious and gets excited about every little thing.

If a generation's Mikanko lack the power, the heavens may not answer at all.

  2. Only daughter of the Mitsurugi, the largest clan, held together by the strength of her mother, the hot-blooded Mikanko of the last generation, Ha-Re hates petty quarrels and puts everyone at ease with her cheerful smile. Her sacred animal is Hinezumi, the fire rat.

The other girls tease her as "Mousey", all but Ni-Ni, whose sincerity gives her courage. Ni-Ni has been pulling ahead of her lately, but Ha-Re's potential is immeasurable.

  3. The Mikagami excel at diplomacy and welcome other cultures, which has helped their house grow but earned them no small resentment. Their only daughter, Ni-Ni, loves her parents for never binding her to tradition, and wants to win their forward-looking ways recognition by becoming the next Ohime with new kinds of dance.

Ha-Re cheered her up many times when she was small, but now Ni-Ni is at the age for catty remarks. Her sacred animal is Nekomata, the cat with two graceful tails, and her dances, polishing tradition and innovation alike, shimmer like a mirror.

  4. The Mitama are the strictest, most closed clan, keeping the ancient dances unchanged through a severe selection. Hu-Li, born to one of its branch families, carries Youko, the spirit fox, a sacred beast so rare that her family has staked its rise on her.

A year younger than Ha-Re and Ni-Ni, she is mischievous, her own way of enjoying life, but underneath she carries deep responsibility and resignation, and longs to be seen for herself, not just as a Mikanko.

Her dance seems to copy the first Mikanko's, and to draw Ohime to her. But is that really her own will...?

Executive Summary

The Mikanko archetype is a unique Ritual-based strategy centered on Equip Spells and a damage reflection mechanic. Initially a reactive "going-second" deck that punished opponents for controlling strong monsters, the 2026 support wave has fundamentally shifted the paradigm. With the introduction of Uzuhime and Sanaki, the deck now possesses consistent, proactive OTK lines on empty boards and oppressive "going first" floodgate capabilities.

Competitive Analysis

Strengths

  • Proactive OTK: Can now kill on an empty board (Uzuhime + Sword).
  • Engine Resilience: Noble Twins bypasses Ash Blossom/Droll.
  • Board Breaking: Non-destructive removal remains elite.
  • Flexibility: Can now play Going First effectively with Floodgate Equips.

Weaknesses

  • Non-Targeting Removal: Cards that "send" or "shuffle" without targeting bypass Hu-Li.
  • Backrow Hate: Cosmetic Cyclone on activation of effects is devastating.
  • Kaijus: Ironically, Kaijus are the best removal against Mikanko.

Meta Integration

  • K9 Engine: Frequently mixed to bait interruptions.
  • Kashtira: Used to banish resources before OTKing.
  • Status: Tier 1 / Master I Contender in 2026.
